Kurisa Moya, nestled in the Northern Drakensberg escarpment, overlooks the breathtaking Kudu"s River valley but is only 45 minutes from the city of Pietersburg Polokwane and 20 minutes from the mountain village of Haenertsburg and the beautiful Magoebaskloof. It is a 3 12 - 4 hour trip from Johannesburg Gauteng. This piece of paradise truly embodies its Xitsonga name, Kurisa Moya, meaning Tranquil Spirit. It is a place where you can revive your soul.
The 4 unique, private venues on Kurisa Moya all can serve as a base for a wide variety of activities and tours on the farm and in the surrounding area. The large, comfortable farmhouse, built in 1937, is situated so as to offer spectacular views of the farm. The house has 5 en-suite bedrooms, a large living and dining area, a well-equipped kitchen and a wide veranda on two sides. The house is designed for socializing so the kitchen, lounge and veranda are popular places in which to meet and relax. The farmhouse is cool in the summer and is warmed by cosy fireplaces during winter. The lovely gardens offer tranquillity and peace and there is a plunge pool in which to cool off on hot summer days.
The two Forest Lodge cabins, each sleeping 2 (with 2 beds in a loft room for kids), are set 3 metres up in a breathtaking indigenous forest. From your private deck you can look out onto massive trees which host playful samango monkeys or Narina Trogons. The cabins are self-contained with a fully-equipped kitchenette, en-suite bathroom, fireplace and barbecue facilities.
Thora Boloka cottage, sleeping 2 (with 4 single beds in the loft for kids), has spectacular views down into the Kudu"s River Valley. This spacious, private venue has unique features like handmade washbasins, gum branches for doorposts and an outdoor shower with a view. The lounge-dining area has a fireplace and the kitchen is fully equipped.
Thora Boloka is an earthy, African venue. The huge patios looking onto a rocky outcrop and grassland-bushveld afford opportunities to see baboons, klipspringer and black eagles in a place of complete privacy and tranquillity.
The well-equipped kitchens in all our venues are perfect for self-catering but dinner, breakfast and lunch can be supplied on request. Alternatively, your first groceries can be bought for you so you can really relax and enjoy the lodge's restful nature.
Kurisa Moya Nature Lodge is the perfect place where you can relax in a tranquil setting or, if you prefer to be more active, to hike, fish, or bird-watch, etc. Various marked trails of graded difficulty and length lead you through a wide range of habitats on the farm. Our Birdlife SA accredited birding guide, David Letsoalo can help you find forest specials. The farm's varied habitats are home to over 250 species of birds, including the Narina Trogan, Black-fronted Bush Shrike, Green Twinspot, Knysna Turaco and Buff-spotted Flufftail. The Woodbush area is one of the Limpopo Province's top birding sites and guided walks on the farm and in the area can be organised with BirdLife SA guide, David Letsoalo.
Our dam is stocked with trout and Haenertsburg is a nationally renowned trout fishing area. Access can be organised to various dam and river venues where both rainbow and brown trout may be caught.
