Brookdale Cottage is a charming thatched cottage situated in the heart of the quaint village of Hilton, which is nestled in the hills above Pietermaritzburg. A warm welcome awaits our guests from your hosts, John and Lynne.
Situated in an attractive, tranquil setting we offer comfortable thatched en-suite accommodation in Rose Cottage, Briar Cottage and Bramble Cottage. If you look carefully you may find gnomes in the secret garden!! Snuggle into an old fashioned Oregon double bed or one of the single beds - all have electric warming blankets for those cold winter nights. Generous full English or Continental breakfasts are served in the sunny dining area or next to the swimming pool. We also have Self-Catering facilities
Summertime in Hilton is pleasant with the occasional summer thunderstorm and our winters, though cold at night, are warm and dry. The spring rains start in late September bringing out the luscious vegetation of the area and this is the time when some of our beautiful gardens are open to the public. Hilton has two small shopping centres and various restaurants nearby where you can wine and dine. You will also find a railway museum and vintage steam trains at the historic Hilton Station.
Brookdale Cottage is within easy walking distance of two wetland areas which are abound with bird life and you may even see the grey duiker. Hilton College, St Anne's College and Cedara Agricultural College are only 5 to 8 kilometres from Brookdale Cottage.
Explore the arts and crafts of our own Hilton Meander or venture further afield to the Midlands Meander. The majestic Drakensberg Mountains can be seen from Hilton and are especially beautiful when covered in snow. Historic Pietermaritzburg and Howick are only a 15 minute drive away and the coastal city of Durban a one hour journey. Midmar Dam is also nearby and offers yachting, fishing and bird watching.
