Chateau des Palmes was born in 1996 when Jino & Mary Maurel purchased a large dilapidated old house in Morehill, Benoni. Over the years dilapidated old house has been converted it into a comfortable, stylish and very successful bed and breakfast. Jino & Mary retired & passed on the Chateau Des Palmes legacy to current owner Diane Barrie in 2004.
We are at present upgrading the rooms & decor. New facilities, such as our conference room, are being added to our list of features.
We intend to be the best Bed & Breakfast facility in Gauteng, South Africa!
Over time we are planning to increase the number of rooms and have some self catering units.
Benoni, meaning "son of my sorrow" in Hebrew, is situated just 45 kms from the vast city of Johannesburg. Benoni is far less urban than the "city of gold", while still providing easy access to Johannesburg"s multitudinous attractions. Mostly however, it is a prime example of prosperous urban middle class South Africa.
The area encompasses over 30 parks with scenic nature trails and superb bird-life. The Korsman Bird Sanctuary is a vast nature reserve that is home to some mammals and approximately 250 species of birds, including the Goliath heron, the glossy ibis, the African spoonbill and the black egret. The Bullfrog Pan is home and breeding ground to the endangered bullfrog, and the Bunny Park, with its numerous rabbits and farm animals, provides a fun outing for the whole family.
