12 Kings Way Leisure Island Knysna 6571
Restaurant in Knysna,Western Cape
Leisure Island Coffee Shop owner, Nadine Cooke, took a while to reach her dream of having her own coffee shop, but after working in the catering industry first in the US and then in Johannesburg as well as an 11 year stint in corporate business, she moved away from the malls and endless traffic, back to her home town, Knysna. It was here, on Leisure Island, that she found the quaint 12 seater shop that is now the 50 seater Leisure Island Coffee Shop.
Situated under two large shady fig trees, the coffee shop is surrounded by a luscious garden with the benefit of the warm winter sun and cool shade in the hot summer months. The shop is one of the original buildings on the island and was originally a service station for farm vehicles and the occasional holiday maker. Inside the shop the old steel rails from the garage door can still be seen while the original name is still on the side of the building. Sunlight streams into the shop through big windows opening up onto the beautifully kept garden.
Nadine offers freshly made home-style dishes like cottage pie and Gran's macaroni and cheese with her unique flair picked up from years working of in the catering industry. The menu also offers burgers, prego rolls and traditional bobotie with rice and vegetables. In winter months the restaurant is filled with the aroma of hearty stews and homemade soups. Lighter options include daily made quiche and garden salads. On Sundays the roast remains a favourite with the locals, proving that nothing tops a traditional roast with fresh veggies, roast potatoes smothered with rich gravy. Vegetarians can choose items of the menu on Sundays.
The cakes, scones and muffins are all made on the premises with the chocolate moist and tempting with a caramel centre. The carrot cake is an original South African version and their cheese cake will melt in your mouth. There are also an array of jams, biscuits, sweets, chips and cooldrinks to take away with any of the meals on the menu. For Island dwellers who do not feel like the drive into town, basic food supplies like eggs, bread and milk, are also available.
Please note that we do not have credit card and debit card facilities but an ATM is available in the Coffee Shop.
