The nature Reserve has 5 Eco-systems, including indigenous forest, grassland, riverine, mountain and pine forest, which showcase the area"s rich diversity of flowers, animals, and bird life. The nurturing environment has attracted the return of many of the species that once roamed the region, including Oribi, Rietbuck, Bushbuck, Bushpig, Antbear, Leopard, Serval, Caracal, Baboon and Eland.
This stretch of the Mooi River is highly regarded by flyfishermen who enjoy challenging the Wild Brown Trout that have been here since the 1870's. There are 6 well stocked Stillwater Dams for the fisherman's further enjoyment.
Other activities include walking, mountain biking and birdwatching.
The evenings are a time to relax on the terrace overlooking the river or in front of a roaring log fire in the cozy Ingwenya Pub. This can be followed with the enjoyment of fine country dining in our gracious diningroom.
The climate of The Bend has year round attraction with distinct differences between the 4 seasons:
the fresh green of Spring, followed by lush summer, then mellow Autumn with its rich colours and finally the crisp winter days with the occasional excitement of snow.
The Bend Country House has welcomed guests since 1994 and has provided the setting for many memorable Weddings and celebrations. We look forward to seeing you soon.
We have eight elegant on suite bedrooms in the main house and a further eight garden rooms in the adjoining new wing. All have period furniture and each room has its own unique character. We have remained true to the ambience of a country home. Some of our rooms have sofa beds and comfortably accommodate children. Most of our bedrooms have balconies, or open into the garden.
The reception area with its imposing wooden staircase and medieval suit of armour gives it an olde world charm, not forgetting the cosy pub with a roaring log fire for those chilly evenings.
The Bend offers a variety of activities including:
Game drives, which take you to the Eland, Reedbuck, Oribi and Duiker.
Trout fishing available in the river or in a choice of five dams.
There are also Mountain trails, Mountain biking and Horse riding.
Enjoy the indigenous and pine forests that surround you.
Bird watching of over 200 species.
Picnic under the Willow trees down at the Mooi River, where white water cascades over shallow rapids.
